Historically, it was recommended to use a dog to uproot mandrakes, but it is now forbidden by the SPCA (Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). I am a dog lover, I hope you are too!  Mandrake Potting: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Recommended method! Admittedly, it is very helpful to have Professor Pomona Sprout have the mandrake uprooted and prepared to transplant!
