Flow . . . my word of the year for 2023.
Life long learning is one of my core values. It includes reading, studying, research, and giving back - teaching and training. My greatest teacher has been the lessons I’ve learned from nature. At times, I’ve been slower to grasp and apply the concepts than I’d like to admit!
Of all nature’s teachers, water fascinates me most. It has three forms - solid (ice), liquid and gas (steam). If I were a super hero, I’d want to be able to transform into one of the three at a moments notice like Aqua Girl! Since I’m merely mortal, I’m hoping to find ways to continue to learn from and apply water’s super powers!
Flowing will remind me not to become blocked or stagnant in any areas of my life - physically, mentally, and spiritually.
At times I’ve let things upset me more than I should. I’m hoping, like water, I’ll learn to flow around and past obstacles without a feeling of fear, tension or frustration. I want to move forward in faith that the universe will provide for me. It always has. Why would I think it would ever stop?

- Gentle stretches, daily walks with Raven, my Cavapoo, and dancing when no one is watching are a few ways I flow physically. I want continuous physical momentum with ease and a sense of fun and enjoyment!
- Mentally I will continue to explore information and learning that is outside my comfort zone. This keeps me from hardening my perspective and keeps me flexible toward different points of view. It’s challenging, and I need to remind myself not to be judgmental. Do you see why I need this word? It also helps me persevere when I’m learning new skills like Adobe Illustrator and Convertkit! Ha!
- Journaling and meditation help me flow spiritually. I’ve journaled almost every day since February 2, 2003. Yep! Groundhog’s Day. I’m sure there is some deep rooted psychological meaning! When I wake up in the morning there is a song running through my mind. Do any of you remember it? “Picture pages, picture pages, time to do your picture pages. Time to get your crayons and your pencils.” For years, I thought that song was for my daughters and other children (at that time.) It took a long time for me to realize it could be my song too!
